new DSL service has low connection speeds

The plan I signed up for calls for 1-3Mbit/s download speed but my modem's status page has been showing speeds between 32 and 672Kbit/s down, and 384 or 416Kbit/s up. Actual performance seems to be exactly that. I would hope to be able to get at least the bare minimum 1Mbit/s most of the time, 32Kbit/s is just silly. I tried connecting the DSL modem (Westell 6100G) in a few different places, including right at the VID box with the house wiring disconnected, and it didn't seem to make a difference so I believe the house wiring is not an issue. Is there anything else I can check or do I need to contact Verizon about this problem?

Could you provide your modem's Transceiver Statistics for us to see? It is a physical issue with the copper plant that we need to sort out, so these statistics will be for informational and reference use. The Statistics can be found under the System Monitoring > Advanced Monitors section of the modem. If you need a Username and Password to login with, should you not have changed it, try the following:

Your Transceiver Statistics seem to be suggesting that you are on a long line back to the DSLAM. If possible, could you provide your Transceiver Statistics from your NID? The statistics can be affected by the condition of the line, besides distance as well so if there is a problem with the line at least inside of your home, we should be able to pick up on it.

If there isn't much of a difference in the statistics out at the NID, we might need to get Verizon down to see what they can do to improve the quality of the line.
