For the past two days, my grandparents have been receiving calls from random people saying that they had just received a call from my grandparents' number. Aparently these people get a call that show up as if it's from my grandparents number, but when they answer, the call ends ("you hung up on me"). This happened about twenty times yesterday and is continuing today. My grandmother and her caregiver tried calling Verizon but weren't able to talk to anyone due to the strike. We tried unplugging all of the phones, but that didn't stop the calls. My grandparents live in the 434 area code in Virginia. Yesterday, all of the "calls" were to other 434 numbers, but today they have been "calling" 540 and 804 numbers as well.
I'm assuming that this is a problem with Verizon's system, but if not, please let me know what we can do to stop it. The constant calls are disturbing my grandmother, and I don't want them to end up being charged for all of the long distance calls that are being dialed using their number.
