Need a new IP

How can I force renewal so that I get a different IP address? The one I currently have is listed as a known spammer on several lists and it is blocking my emails from getting through. I unplugged ther router, but when it came back, it came back with the same IP. I need to get rid of the one I currently have.

You can turn your router off for 24 hours or you can call Verizon and ask for them to release your address and hopefully you will get a new IP.

If you are direct deliverying email's from your residential account -- first, that probably will have broken since Verizon is now blocking port 25. If somehow you still are however ... that's less likely a "spammer" and more likely because Verizon's residential address blocks are registered on the various blacklists as being dynamic address space -- the only mail from these are most always spam.

If you're a business customer with a static IP ... you need to talk to Verizon's customer service.

If you're using an outbound mail server -- Verizon's or someone else's -- then you need to let the recipient know to whitelist your address or contact the owner of the list which they are using to determine the block and get yourself off the list (there is usually a form to fill out to have them correct the issue).

This sometimes happens with Verizon's mail server's -- oddly enough usually when going to Comcast's mail servers. It also happens a lot with those $3.95/mo hosting services as these are "shared" servers and spammers will frequently open an account and start spamming until they get shutdown on a TOS violation. If it's this later case, the hosting provider will usually help you out and get the block removed by speaking with the list owner directly.

You need to have the router disconnected for at least 5 hours.

I believe they are only blocking port 25 if you are not on the VZ network.

I have a machine that uses the VZ SMTP server on the VZ network and port25 with no issues. I'm sure if I moved the machine to a non VZ network then the mail would be blocked.

Your issue will be that somebody has been using the IP address you have obtained either for direct spamming or relay spamming (relay is exactly what VZ are stopping using the port 25 block) which is why some of your email gets thru and some gets rejected.

You could report this to VZ tech support as well thought typically this doesn't get very far.
