Internet light blinks on and off

The internet light on my DSL router blinks on and off at the rate of about once a second. It seems to happen even when notihing is ging on.

Does this indicate any kind of problem? Does it indicate anything at all?

I have a vague recollection that it used to blink only when data was being transferred. But my memory could be playing tricks on me.

Blinking in general is good. It means that the router is sending and recieving information.

When you are doing something on the internet, it should blink more rapidly.

Even if you aren't doing anything at all, it will still blink. That is called a keep alive signal.

IF you find that you are doing literally nothing on the internet and the light is FIRING off rapidly, then that "may" be an indication that you have a virus or a worm or some type of malicious software. it should only blink rapidly when you are doing something on the internet.
