Is verison.net email down?

Just sent out an email to a number of individuals and got a delivery failure on all that had a verizon.net email address. Tried sending an email from my gmail account to my verizon.net account and it was bounced also.

Anybody else having this problem or knwo what's going on?

What was the reason listed in the delivery failure message?

Reason shown was as follows:

550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias: persons_name@verizon.net

Same reason for several users of verizon web mail. No chance of email being entered incorrectly since they are in my phone book and used almost daily.

I sent an email to our meeting attendees this morning and got 20 hard bounces from verizon.net with the same diagnotic code:

DSN Status 5.1.1
DSN Diagnostic Code smtp; 550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias: xxxxx@verizon.net
DSN Action failed
Reporting MTA dsn; a14-106.smtp-out.amazonses.com
Sent On 10/21/2014

I've sent to these people in the past with no problem. Please let me know if this issue has been resolved and I will try to re-send.

Yes it was down, I got the exact same issues also.

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

user@verizon.net

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain verizon.net by relay.verizon.net. [xxx.xx.xxx.xx].

The error that the other server returned was:
550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias: user@verizon.net

Seems to be working again.......

Agree with last poster. Seems to be working right now.

I could not find any way to verify the status of verizon's web mail this morning. I found the following site that incorrectly reported no problems:

http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/verizon.net.html

For future reference, does anybody know how to check the status of Verizon's web mail other than to post to the Verizon Commuity.

You could check at verify-email.org. Just paste the verizon.net email address and click "Verify".

At the moment, verizon.net addies are still coming up "*****@verizon.net - Result: Bad".
