What happened to Golf Channel HD?

The company that owns them, split them so that each one can have their own full time HD channel. Verizon will carry Golf HD on channel 593, but I don't know when they will start it.

I wouldn't look for Golf HD until the new year. Right now, there are no immediate plans to add this.

Let me know if its still not working.. It seems as if there is/was a Golf Channel HD outtage and seems to have been resolved please let me know if its still not working.

I received an email regarding Golf channel HD National Channel outtage 2 days ago but was resolved. If anything it should show Coming soon.

I'm gonna see if I can find out the ETA on that channel add

Any idea when it will be available for Washington DC metro viewers?

Rumor (and that's all it was) is that it's supposed to start being added beginning the 3rd week of this month.

Personally, I think it was a missed opportunity on VZ's part not to have this live at the time of the channel split, but I understand things happen.

Just added on the main FIOS TV forum, rumor has it that it will start being added the 3rd week of this month.

Better get it soon, or I am leaving. This is one of my 5 or so must have channels. I feel kind of ripped off to sign up in the fall when they essentially had this channel, only to lose it. I guess they just count on it being too much of a PITA to switch carriers when they drop a channel someone wants and was paying for.

I just can not understand why Verizon will not communicate with its customers as to when channels will be added.

We have waited for Golf HD to go live since the golf season began.

Do I dare ask if we are going to be seeing the Bob Hope in High Definition? This 5 round event will be on the Golf Channel exclusively.

I agree. One of the main reasons I dropped Cox for Verizon was to get better quality Golf Channel HD. Now all I have is 480i. Sure would be nice if they gave us a date for it to reappear.

I just talked to a Verizon rep about Golf Channel HD. They do not carry it on any of their systems and do not know if they will ever carry it. Sounds like a power play to me since Golf Channel is owned by Comcast. May be a deal breaker for me since Cox in my area does carry Golf Channel HD.

Please read the rest of the thread before making silly posts. Golf HD is coming, it will be on Channel 593, and will be included in the next round of channel rollouts. This was set to begin this week, but there have not been any reports of this starting.

As a result, i'm personally not sure of when this will begin - but it is coming.

I hope you are correct. The rep I talked to was not at all optimistic about when or if Golf HD would be offered. I guess they are told not to say anything until a channel is placed in service. It would save a lot of gnashing of teeth if he could have said what you say.

As many have mentioned, we would like an estimate of when the Golf Channel HD will be available in DC. We understand that it's only an estimated date (give or take a few weeks or months). Thanks.

It's there one week, then it's just gone? And all the while HD coverage of the PGA tour is unavailable to all FIOS customers.

This is insane! How can we escalate this ridiculous situation to someone in a position of authority at Verizon?

Nice that someone in this string has said it might be available the third week of January 2009, but that was LAST week!

I'll chime in too. Golf Channel HD is a "must have" for me. It is really annoying that we lost this channel a month before the golf season started and almost 2 months later have yet to get the channel back on the air. Come on Verizon!

The Golf channel is one of the reasons to have HD and Fios. What is the problem? The season has started and we have now MISSED the big opening tournament. Very Unhappy! We want GOLF and don't really care about the Superbowl! What is the anticipated start date? This is getting crazy not getting ANY USEFUL information!

Does anyone from Verizon officially monitor this forum? There is a posting suggesting Golf Channel HD would be available on channel 593 about now, but I have not seen or heard anything from an OFFICIAL Verizon source.

They do seem to be keeping it quiet in this thread, don't they?

Someone in Oregon just reported they have it, so they must be rolling it out!

My Verizon - DC contact informed me today that the ESTIMATED rollout date for the Golf Channel HD for DC is currently 02/03/09, barring any unforeseeable issues.

Kathleen, any idea when HD will be available in Hampton Roads?

Golf HD apparently also went live today in Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Harrisburg, PA areas.

Why is Verizon so secretive when it comes to channel adds (and to IMG release notes, which is another topic)?

When I was with Time Warner, I could go to thier programming alerts page and see when I would be getting new channels.

btw, no Golf Channel here in VHO3.

I live in Richmond VA and I too have that message that I'm not subscribed. I can't get in touch with a real person on Verizon to talk to. Are they all off on Saturday?

Same problem. I'm on Extreme HD and it's telling me I'm not subscribed to Golf HD (Richmond, VA). I really like the end product, but Verizon seriously needs to get someone in charge of the tv side that can deliver service and effectively communicate changes and delays to the customer base. I hated being with Comcast but at least they told you when a channel was coming and it came. The communication is completely lacking with the customer base and it's very frustrating to people like me that really, really enjoy the product. It also keeps some people from switching over

We don't get the Golf Channel (nonHD) as we are not subscribed to the "sports" package. We only get "premium" service as part of the Triple Play. What's the deal with the Golf HD? We seem to get all the HD channels (except HBO, etc.). I guess this is going to be another add-on? Experience from anyone who has it? We don't seem to have it yet in the DC/MD area.

You have to subscribe to the Sports Package in order to receive the HD Golf Channel and other HD sports channels. I believe it's $15/month.

I forgot to mention that you also have to subscribe to the Sports Package to get the Non-HD Golf Channel also. This is not a new requirement.

I get all the sports channels - ESPN, ESPN News, ESPNU, BIG 10 channel, NHL Live, Versus etc. And at one time I got Golf Channel HD before they took it away. What other sports channels are there to get with the "sports package"?

Sports package are all channels from 300-319 plus CBS College Sports and NHL Network plus their HD counterparts.

Golf HD live this morning in VHO8 (DE/PA/South NJ)

LIVE in lower Montgomery County, MD! Thanks to the heads up from this forum this am, I punched in 593 and it was finally there - granted I had to upgrade to the Extreme HD package for $5 more a month (plus 90 days with 3 $10 discounts for total <$30> go figure...) It is a good Valentine's Day present - IF I can keep it a secret during the Pebble Beach on Thursday & Friday. YEA!
