Bluetooth broken on Verizon Galaxy Tab?

Is there a fix on the way for the Bluetooth functionality on the Galaxy Tablet? It seems that with all other versions,(from other providers) it is possible to use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. The Verizon Galaxy will not work with a Keyboard and Mouse at all. This has been confirmed on many forums.

Is this just a mistake that will be corrected soon with an over the air update or should I consider a return to get a device from another company? I can't imagine a good reason this would have been removed by Verizon. All other vendors have it available so what is the story?

Is there any update or offical word on resolving the Versizon version of the Galaxy Tablet not working with any bluetooth headsets or hands free devices? I ended up buying two and returning both only to find out what appears to be Verizon intentionally disabling the Bluetooth?

I'd just like to add that I, too, am experiencing this problem. Verizon appears to have intentionally disabled bluetooth keyboard support. Please fix this ASAP!

The real question is how long are we goig to have to wait for HID bluetooth support. It's built into all of the GSM versions of the device. It shouldn't be that hard to add.

Going with VZW on the tab may have been the wrong way to go. Tmobile has full bluetooth support and left the sd card open and still has 16G of internal memory. The VTW tab is crippled.

Funny how the official reply from a moderator to my original post is gone now. It said they were aware of the issue and were working on it. Does this mean that had changed and no fix is on the way?

Time to see if Sprint will fix this. On a month to month plan I loose nothing by switching.

Hi, it doesn't seem as you say. There is a discussion among a few users on Android forums and xda with a youtube video of a Japanese tab was shown with a bluetooth mouse. It was pathetically slow--you should wach it--and hilarious too. It is a touchscreen device, lol. I don't know if it is related to foreign or GSM versions but some reported eventual success with a Tmob version and there was one report of AT&T. None for Sprint, I think.

I had a similar issue with Bluetooth voice acttivated dialing on Android--none!. That was essential to me, but I got the Droid anyway. The feature wasn't added until Froyo. Anyway what function do these accomplish better than touch or that you need? To each his own. Seems to defeat the purpose of a tab. But if that is essential to you, you should shop around--It's interesting to note that that feature is not touted on any of the carrier's websites--there is no differentiation at all. They all say 3.0 and none say HID. But on Samsung's site, they vary. TMob says 3.0, the other say "yes".

I don't need a mouse. I do need a keyboard. Verizon seems to agree it is useful and sells a keyboard dock for the Tab. I already have a folding Bluetooth keyboard and it would be perfect to carry to meetings with my tab instead of a PC. A full keyboard dock would be a bit much to carry around to meetings and client offices don't you think? A folding keyboard is smaller than the tab when stored. There is even a case for the Galaxy Tab available with a Bluetooth keyboard built in. When you open it it has the screen in landscape and the keyboard below it. That is the perfect thing for taking notes at a meeting. If none of this matters to you that's fine. It does to me. Had I known Verizon had a crippled version of the device for sale I would have gone to another provider. I missed the short return window. If they would take it back now I would be happy to return it.

I am very active on a Galaxy Tab forum. It is not just me that is upset by this and it is not just Tabs in Europe that support Bluetooth Keyboards. Many users are pairing with a keyboard to make the Tab a PC replacement when traveling on business. It makes the Tab more useful and not supporting the Bluetooth keyboards is a bad decision.

See that, but wow, no details. Is it bluetooth? No mention of connectivity at all.

Saw your link; that is snazzy. None of the sites imply any variations. Hardly even Samsung. very small.

Cripple is easy to say, but... lame, lol. Why don't ANY of the US versions have voice? I don't know why they vary. I would want everything on it. Sorry you missed the 30-day and the problem in general.

A Bluetooth keyboard would be asesome for takig notes durring meeting and classes. On screen is OK but clunky. I guess the real point here is why VW decided to take functinality away, bluse tooth HID,telephony. Maybe it's because this could have been the one device for all, I carry mine everywhere and if I have paired a head set it would have been my phone too. Opps that would mean I only needed one device :smileyhappy:

I am so **bleep** off about this I have been telling everyone I know to cancel their verizon subscriptions becuase this is the biggest load of crap anyone has ever seen.

I am a VERY VERY long time Verizon Wireless User and I have gotten well over 20 people onto the Verizon network but now im getting them off. Iused to love Verizon but with all these new things they are taking away from the customer wihtout telling is is really losing them reputation and FAST.

Not only is it immoral but most likely ILLEGAL to tell us that we have Bluetooth connectivity and then BLOCK things liek bluetooth keyboard and mouses, ARE YOU SERIOUS VERIZON!?!?!?!?!?!

I have been on countless forums and everyone who has a Verizon SGT is so **bleep** off about this its unbelieveable. We are valued PAYING customers and as such you need to treat us like real people. There was a moderator post that said they were working on it AND YOU HAD IT DELETED. How shady is that. I feel like im deling with a drug dealer on the street corner selling cell phones.

I need to know what you plan to do about this

I'm pretty **bleep** too. I go out and spend $40.00 on a keyboard, then find out that Verizon won't allow me to use it. Too make it worse they don't seam to care about their customers. I think I'll take my 5 phones and two tabs to another carrier.

I am so ""bleep"" off at reading childish posts where one party takes no responsiblity for his actions. You do have bluetooth connectivity. Why they vary is beyond me. If you will research, you will not find any difference on Tmo, At&T, Sprint or Samsung website or on any of the reviews. If you do, will you post it here? I have not found it. Will you show evidence for "BLOCKING"?

I KNOW YOU DON'T BELIEVE WHAT YOU WROTE. You would be better off not counting on what you do not have now. Try contacting Samsung, get some answers and post them here please so everyone will know.

Everyone has seen the same forums. And some people like hyperbole. You are right about the deleted post--can't explain but this isn't Bay of Pigs or JFK or wikileaks.

Don't accept it if is not satisfactory. What else can you do?

When you buy a peripheral for your PC; do you make sure it is compatible? A bluetooth headset? Anything? That's what it takes.

You clearly don't need a keyboard. I am not sure why you are sticking with this thread telling everyone that does need one we are wrong and unreasonable. I would have returned my device when I found this problem if I had not seen a post by a Verizon employee stating they were aware of the issue and would address it. Now my 14 day return period is over and I can't. They also pulled the post and have not replied to any customer request for information since. I feel cheated by their behavior.

Verizon never published information that they would not support a Bluetooth keyboard. It clearly does not and the AT&T and T-Mobile versions do. Go visit The Galaxy Tab Forum if you need proof of that. If Samsung supports it and Verizon chooses not to how are we to take responsibility if they don't tell us? They were very clear that it will not make phone calls like the European version of the Tab can and I accepted that before I bought one. Complaining about that would be unreasonable.

This thread is a request by Verizon customers to restore functionality we want, and thought was included. We are not asking for an new feature that does not exist. If you don't need it fine. I really can't understand your desire to keep posting in this thread. The rest of us want the feature and you will not change that by saying we are wrong. You don't understand how we want to use our device and how we feel about what Verizon did. That is why we disagree. I am glad you are so happy with your Galaxy Tab

I would sell my Tab but now that the new 4G LTE version was announced at CES my new device is worth a lot less. I would be happy to return it if they would take it back so I can by a fully featured version from another provider.

I found a post here - Galaxy Tab Forum that says a Freedom Pro keyboard works on the Sprint CDMA Tab. Even though it has the HID profile removed like the Verizon Tab it will support an SPP connection. The Sprint device supports this keyboard - Freedom Site. Can Verizon comment and just answer if the Verizon Galaxy Tablet supports SPP Bluetooth connections? It is a simple straightforward question. It should be easy to answer.

Here is a copy of some information on the Freedom Keyboard website. They are unsure if Verizon has blocked SPP connections.

We have been receiving reports from some users that Verizon have disabled the Bluetooth support on their Android devices. It does certainly appear that the HID support has been removed on devices like the Galaxy Tab but we have been unable to determine if the SPP support (which is how the drivers connect) has been removed. Please check with your Cell provider to see if they have disabled any of the Bluetooth profiles for your device.
