Things I miss from my DTV / Tivo days

There are a few software features that I miss from my DTV / Tivo days vs. FiOS:

1 - The ability to create wishlist automatic recordings. I could create a Season Pass for a keyword such as "Corvette" and the DVR would record any shows with the keyword in the title or program description.

2 - The ability to jump to a specific date in time in the guide.

3 - The ability to view upcoming shows for a Season Pass from the Season Pass Manager (Series Manager). This is a big one for me because it's a PITA to have to search for a show so I can see upcoming episodes when it's already in my Series Manager.

Verizon hereby has my permission to add these features to future software releases. Smiley Very Happy

I'll add some more as I think of them. What are yours?

But I do have a few questions and comments, as I have never had a Tivo:

re #2: How do you jump to a specific date in time in the Guide, and how far out, in days, can you go on a Tivo? Just curious, because I can easily jump a day at a time in the FiOS Guide, out to the limit of how many days are available, usually 12 for me.

re #3: Again, how do you do it on a Tivo, and how far out can you go? With FiOS, once I have scheduled a series, it is easy to see all episodes scheduled, but only within the time limit of the Guide currently stored in the DVR, again usually 12 days for me.

I think there may be additions/enhancements to these functions coming in the new 1.9 level of the IMG that is beginning to roll out.

Just curious, thanks for any feedback.

I know with the Dish VIP DVRs you can enter the number of hours you would like to advance in the guide and then hit the right arrow. They also had the 24 hr. jump like Verizon, but jumping a definite amount of hours was nice.

There was an option on the guide and it would bring up a list by day and hour. You could use the up and down arrows to select the day and time to jump. Usually, you could jump about 12 days ahead. Whatever guide data was available at the time.

How? Other than looking at View Schedule which brings up all shows. What I’m talking about is going into Series\SP manager, picking a show, and listing all the upcoming episodes of just that show.

That would be cool. I’m looking forward to it.

Oh yeah, recorded programs were / are divided into 15 minutes segments and you could skip forward 15 minutes at a time while watching a recorded program. That was

I believe there is a similar function in IMG 1.9 (someday)

I have learned to adjust to Verizon fios tv.. I only miss one biggie that was better on directv than fios.. I miss the ability to download programming from on demand without having to watch it at the same time.. If you want to view something on demand with fios you watch it then and there.. To me this really stinks..

I think the reason for that is that with DTV, there is no telling how fast an internet connection you have, so they let you download them so you dont have to buffer it to watch it. With Verizon the On Demand speed is such that there is no buffering needed to watch it. It can download faster than you can watch it. So they dont have to use the limited room on the hard drive to save an on demand movie and save that space for other recordings.

The wishlist is the feature I really miss on the Verizon DVR's. My TIVOs have it and I love that feature.

We have 1.9 in VHO 14. When you are watching a recording from your Fios DVR, you can press the up arrow and it will allow you to jump to specific parts of the show. Little pictures from different segments of the show pop up and you can select one to skip ahead. I think it is either a 5 or 10 minute jump for each screen.

Also, you can skip ahead two hours at a time on the Guide now by using the arrow keys. If you use the other arrows, the rounded ones, it will skip you ahead 24 hours.

If you miss tivo that much then maybe you should get your own tivo premiere to use with fios! BTW i can skip 24 hours at a time with mine! and i use wishlist quite a bit to find upcoming shows.

I also miss my DTV Tivo!!! So user friendly! The "Now Playing" list showing the shows recorded on the dvr can be listed chronologically or alphabetically, with 10 shows at a time on the page.

Also, TIVO shows what channel the second tuner is tuned to, whether you are recording or not. This helps in seeing the live recording that the two tuners are always doing.
