NASA TV - Channel Request

Looking at the previous threads going back several years, many have and continue to request NASA TV. Come on Verizon, most other carriers (DirectTV & Dish, AT&T UVerse, Brighthouse, Time Warner, Cox, RCN) have this channel but we don't. Please add NASA TV to the lineup. Everyone, please vote yes in favor of this channel, and hopefully Verizon will listen to their customers!

While I absolutely agree with you and have voted for the idea years ago, there is one problem with your statement. Almost nobody currently carries NASA TV. The only ones I am aware of are DirecTV and DISH. I know Comcast does not (at least not in the Philly area) .

Yeah I probably should have clarified that a bit, meaning DirectTV and Dish as I would think Fios is in direct competition over them nationally as a whole rather then the cable companies. Still people do have the option by switching to those carriers if they so choose, and im sure Verizon would rather accomodate their customers.

Yes, I agree. Please add NASA TV, Verizon. There is no excuse not to carry at least one of the NASA channels.

According to the NASA TV FAQ's:

"The NASA TV Public, Media and Education channels are "free-to-air," meaning your cable or satellite service provider can carry each at no cost. Contact your local cable or satellite service provider about carrying any NASA TV channel."

I completely agree, I would love to have a NASA TV option, and believe it should be available from the most basic Select HD, all the way to Ultimate.

Err... huh? This can't be completely accurate, no strings attached, can it? If NASA TV is truly a public, totally free channel for providers and consumers both, then why has FIOS (and almost all other carriers) continued to act as though it doesn't exist, despite continued protestations from a small minority of interested FIOS customers over the years?

If literally the only cost to anyone, besides NASA's cost to run the channel, is the bandwidth the channel takes up, not offering it is absurd. I can even appreciate that picking up the HD feed might be something Verizon is opposed to at present given larger data demands, but the SD NASA TV feed? We have a zillion and one SD channels of all shapes and sizes - and languages, for that matter - so not carrying a completely free channel which most certainly is of interest to a fair number of viewers, and so only serves Verizon's interests by being one more lure to potential and existing customers, seems to be an illogical decision business-wise.

Admittedly, NASA TV is of very little interest to even those of us who are proponents of it, we rare few who are Astronomy geeks, except for certain iconic events... and without Shuttle launches, and with NASA's budget devastated and future missions on the verge of extinction, those are increasingly rare. That said, I sorely missed having NASA-TV as recently as Thanksgiving Day for the Comet ISON watch. Having switched to FIOS nearly a decade ago now from DirecTV, it's been so long since I did have NASA-TV that I'm sure their non-event programming is radically different from what it was, and so hopefully might be more appealing than it was back then now that they don't have the attraction of regular launches for major missions. Even if not and their normal day-to-day content is still a total bore, if it's actually free for the carrier, FIOS not offering it is inexcusable. So I can only hope there's some catch, clause or added caveat which renders the "free-to-air" inaccurate/not the whole truth.

I was shocked to find that when I switched to FIOS after having been on DISH and DIRECTV for over 15 years total, there is no NASA TV on FIOS! I don't care of COMCAST or other cable providers don't have it, it's the right thing to do...

We really need this channel. Come on FIOS what kind of crap excuse can you give as to why we don't have it? It can't be a band with issue.

I am yet another FIOS customer requesting NASA TV. To get full coverage of today's Orion Flight Test, I had to connect my laptop to TV and stream from the media link on http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv. Why can't we get a FIOS channel in an area where we have high interest in NASA TV?

Unfortunately I have given up on Verizon ever adding the NASA channel Smiley Frustrated . Many phrases come to mind - It's like spitting the ocean and expecting the level to rise, carrying coals to Newcastle are 2 of the clean ones that could be posted.

Possibly because it is available so many ways.

New smart TVs probably have the app, and other boxes (ROKU, APPLE TV, etc) can carry it to your TV as well.

Even though they may not have to pay for the content, there is a cost. Connectivity to get and distribute it as well as taking up a valuable channel.

Can't say that I have ever heard anyone say if FIOS doesn't get NASA, I am leaving.

ITs been said. Some people have said if the new yule log channel is not up in HD they are going to leave. Smiley Very Happy Even some who want the missing Byran Allen channel added.

Never had this problem with Comcast! This is a free TV channel, like PBS. Why don"t we/verizon have access to NASA TV?

FYI, NASA channels are available on Roku boxes, as well as quite a few others FIOS ignores.

About it taking up 'valuable' space on FIOS, we were told years ago at launch that they had 'unlimited space' and only thing holding all channel adduitions back was a bad channel map design.

Well, if that has been fixed, they have had 5+ years to do so, then there should be almost no cost to add a free channels to the service.l

The worst part is no response from FIOS on this for over *5* years. How are you supposed to trust a provider that treats you like a number?

+1 for NASA TV request. I haven't seen this channel since I was very young and used to just watch the various space feeds, so cool! Robot Happy
