Play More Unlimited Canada plan is VERY LIMITED

Time to bring this up in 2023.

So, we have students planning to attend university in Montreal. When we've been up there touring, they run out of "usable data" really quickly during the day. We have the Play More plan, but the "unlimited" is actually severely limited after you cross .5G of data. So, the question is, what are our options for people studying abroad that need a decent phone plan? It appears that this supposed unlimited Canada feature is totally unusable to us!

Not sure if this helps, but here's my experience.

I have a cabin in northern Vermont near the Canadian border. For Verizon service, I roam on Canadian towers. I had the Go Unlimited plan which included Canada and Mexico. When I would stream live TV on my phone, I would be limited to the .5GB threshold (after ~one hour) and after that my streaming would fail due to the significantly reduced speeds. I called support to find out why my unlimited data was being throttled and the solution suggested was to change plans. I changed to the 5G Get More plan (not a significant increase in cost) which included 5GB of high-speed data before being reduced. When the 5GB was exceeded and subsequently reduced, the live TV streaming was still supported, clean and pleasantly acceptable. Streaming DVR recordings, for some reason, were affected after the speed reduction and not acceptable to watch, but the live TV streaming does work and is more important to me.

Maybe a different plan for the line(s) in Montreal will help you.

Thanks jav6. Good information to have.

Question could also be whether the college bound kids should switch to a different SIM card when living in Montreal on their iPhone 13s. and whether they can pop in their Verizon SIMS when crossing the border to visit stateside.

Carl, we're in Verizon's own community webpages. Not "social media" per se. So, no way to DM here. Not sure what type of interface you are using that throughs everything together, but that's not good design.
