3g device cancelled

We had a phone that I thought was a landline but wasn't. It was 3g. We haven't used it in ages - we just keep it as a place holder for the phone number. Now that Verizon is cancelling the device, what will happen to the number? We really need to keep that phone number for future use.

I clicked on the link and got this: I don't get on the computer more than once a day, and sometimes not even that, so sending me a link with a short shelf life probably isn't going to work.

You should have been notified of the 3G network shutdown and Verizon was telling their customers to switch their 3G only devices to 4G capable devices prior to the shutdown.
