Reclaim a number which is available/new service

I had a Verizon Wireless Number that has been off for a few years now and needing to reclaim the old number. Is this possible? Who can I speak to for this matter? I would like to start service with vzw and this number

I confirmed that the number rings to out of order message and suspect it is back in the available telephone number pool
