CR1000B router & CE1000A extender compatibility

I just got my Gig internet installed, and the router the agent used is a CR1000B. My plan includes a extender for free, so I ordered the new CE1000A extender model. Is that extender compatible with the CR1000B router or just the A version (CR1000A) of the router?

I tried setting up the extender last night and immediately when I disconnected the Ethernet cords after 15 mins of pairing the extender had a steady yellow light. I also tried the method of pairing when you hold the buttons on the back of the router & extender and that had the same result.

If you want to use wifi backhaul set things up that way with the CE1000A close to the CR1000B, then move the extender to where you want it to be.

If you want to use wired backhaul set it up that way with a short cable between the two devices and then move the extender to where you need it and plug it into the wire there.

Wired backhaul is generally faster.

CR1000A and B are virtually the same.

I haven't seen a CE1000A yet, not sure whether you could order it, or you meant CME1000?

The new Extender CE1000A was ordered for me by Executive Relations, I can’t find it online on the Verizon store so it just be exclusive for them to order for now.

I checked the manual, CE1000A can connect with CR1000B wirelessly.

I would try connect them with a short coax or an Ethernet first, after they exchange the information using SSDP, you should be able to disconnect the coax/Ethernet link and they should be able to backhaul wirelessly.

Nonetheless, backhauling an extender wirelessly should be used as a last resort. Wired backhaul is better than wireless. Wireless backhaul adds latency, occupies two bands (reduces the number of wireless devices you could connect), and is unstable than wired alternatives.

I have a question. What your saying is that it would be smarter to have the router in one room, and connect the extender to it via Ethernet rather than wirelessly? Would that just require running a Ethernet cord from the router to the extender?
