Verizon IoT simcards- support cellular modem commanding SMS text via AT commands?

Does Verizon offer a IoT simcard (typically data/SMS only) that supports circuit switched SMS?

Circuit switched as opposed to requiring use of https/GET/POST to send and receive. For a circuit switch SMS we use AT commands.

Also, do verizon IoT simcards support getting a phone number, so for example I can use my smart phone to send SMS to my IoT device with a cellular modem (SIM7600G)?

You are kidding right? I spent literally hours on the phone calling the only phone numbers posted to talk to sales and the people who spoke to (I spoke to 8 people over a 2.5hr call!!!) could not answer my questions...worse they could not find help to answer my questions. I waited and waited many times in hopes that the people I spoke to would help but they apparently had no resources and didn't really understand the questions I asked.

Cudo to a Tristan Himes who really tried and said he would try to contact someone who could help. I got a followup email but again answer was vague "....you can send and receive SMS text...". Most simcards for IoT use say the same thing BUT there's a difference in how it has to be done and allowed to propagate. Most modems support circuit switched (i.e. via AT commands) SMS texging, but the simcard vendor and carrier agreements either block or disallow this for some reason... probably cost. I don't know. The easy way out is for simcard vendor to only offer texting via a call to HTTP/Post/Get, i.e. a 3rd party server and I can't do that.

Do verizon's M2M (or IoT) simcards and data plans support using the modem to send SMS text? I don't care if they have another way to do it. This is how I have to use my modem for my client.

Hi - did you ever get a resolution to this? We are trying to use a Quectel EG21 modem to send/receive SMS in our clients wildfire protection system, and it seems to be an absolute nightmare when it comes to the Verizon network

Yes...my solution was to avoid Verizon. Total frustration trying to get through to anyone that understood simcards for IoT use. Verizon has several sites that seem to relate to IoT but anyone I tried to contact...and there were many...all put in in contact with a sales person who could not answer my questions about their simcards. Everytime they said they would connect me with a more technical person it was just another sales person.

Long story short...no matter where you get your simcards from your IoT device (with modem) will need to be certified.

I finally got hold of ATT, just as they seem to be organizing and wanting to work more with small entrepreneurs. contact me at tc at nuspatial dit kom and I can tell you more if you are interested. Do to upfront costs I realized I need to wait get my client to commit to more concrete requirements before I deal with certification. There is a usable simcard option but requires more explanation.
