Home 5G Internet IP Passthrough

As of 09/05/2023, the Internet IP Passthrough doesn't work where my Nest Pro gets slow speed (50 down and 20 up). I am getting 250 +/20 mbps when connected directly to the VRZ router. I have had my Nest Pro Mesh network from day one, and I have not seen this sort of speed degradation until a month ago.

Is Verizon aware of this issue? Based on several posts I have found it has been going for a quite while.

My FW version is 231451

My router FW version is 3.2.0.21

It is odd it worked for 10 months and with recent FW releases the passthrough mode is broken. It is unacceptable to have an option and then break it with no plans on rectifying it.

It is never the goal to upset you as we want you to enjoy your Home Internet device and service. I do apologize as we cannot guarantee service with the Mesh system as the device was not made for that compatibility.

I am also having this issue. I spent hours in a CHAT with Verizon Support about this issue, and they recommended sending me a new modem because they said my modem was malfunctioning. Got a new modem and I am still having the same issue. If this isn't fixed very soon, I will be returning all of the Verizon Home 5G and returning back to another ISP, which unfortunately is Spectrum for me.

I've been a long time customer of Verizon, but this customer support is really starting to p**s me off. I can't speak to anyone without getting thrown in a chat anymore. I still have a unresolved ticket that no one is even doing anything about. I never received my promotion from the promo Verizon was doing for new customers of Verizon 5G Home.

Verizon is about to lose another customer, which really s**ks because I've liked Verizon a lot since I've been with them, it's just getting to be really bad and hard to deal with anymore.

I wish this wasn’t handled privately as many people are having this issue. I have a google/nest WiFi mesh setup with 6 access points. They cannot be setup in bridge mode, and I cannot have a double NAT setup, so the NEED the IP pass through feature or DMZ. With either of these enabled, my internet is so slow that devices sometimes don’t even think thru are online. This is so extremely frustrating that it’s making me look elsewhere for internet service just to have something that works. There have to be some solutions.

At least in my case, it's not actually being handled at all. They sent me one message about my "concerns with speeds in my area" (demonstrating a clear lack of understanding of the issue) and then have been silent since my immediate response pointing out that is not the issue at all.

Verizon Tech Team claims they could not duplicate the issue - blamed my router (which works perfectly with Spectrum). Game over - returned the Gateway two days ago and not ever looking back. Now has me wondering if I should move my phone away from Verizon to Spectrum also......

It’s this latest upgrade for sure. Was told today by Verizon, “sorry. We won’t help you because we don’t support Ip passthrough, even tho the instructions are on our website.”

Late reply, perhaps not connected, but I've had a lot of problems with reliable service in passthrough mode, and, like others, VZ tech support was absolutely useless (2 hour long chat sessions where they randomly bounce you to another agent, etc).

I have had some luck with setting the MTU at my router to 1428, having found that the largest unfragmented ping I could issue was 1400. Random flakeouts with some sites seems to be greatly improved. Not perfect, but better.

I am doing a Doble nat for now while checking for FW update on the verizon unit. I had a tech acknowledged the issue and pretty much said wait for update

I played along with "wait for a fix" and then their Tech Team said "we opened an issue with ASUS" (my router manufacturer) when the issue is 100% Verizon's Gateway Bridge Mode firmware. GOOD LUCK to those who are waiting for a fix. I MOVED ON to Spectrum - my previous provider with whom I am quite pleased. I switched to Verizon to save a few bucks and quickly learned - the hard way - you get exactly what you pay for.

Yeah, I also hope to find a fix or update to add/fix the IP passthrough or bridged mode. I was looking in the modem, and never saw it, so I went looking on forums for a fix. Most users need this so we can add a separate router to get a better user experience!

I had the same issue with a DD-WRT based router that worked fine in passthrough mode until a firmware update to the Verizon gateway caused the same issues the OP is reporting. For me, I ended up having to set the MTU on the WAN interface in *my* router to a value that allowed websites to load properly.

How do we get the updated software? I can't seem to find a search for new firmware in the settings of the gateway anymore.

double NAT seems to have resolved the problem, even when I connect to the home mesh router network. Maybe just a throttle effect when ip passthrough selected?
