Arizona Trans Priv Surcharges

I am being charged these surcharges for Arizona. One is for Prescott valley and the other is Yavapai County. I have never lived in Arizona and as a matter of fact my billing address has always been Ohio. My phones were purchased in Arizona on the way through. No one at Verizon can give me a legitimate reason for the surcharges. Anyone know why these charges are there or how to get them removed?

I do not live in Arizona, have never been there. I recently found three repeating monthly trans priv surcharges for AZ, Chandler City, and Maricopa County. This has been in my Account for the last almost 24 months! Called Verizon and they were unable to tell me why these charges were appearing on the bill THEY CREATED. I was told to call my state. I live in the northeast And have NO IDEA why I would be getting charged for Arizona taxes. Would like an answer from VERIZON.

I'm being charged AZ surcharges monthly & I haven't lived there since 05/30/2022!

Why am I being charged these surcharges? I don't know either but when you find out,let me know,too.

We have the same 3 and then 3 more that are just a little bit of a different spelling but for the same things. How can this be ok? For example: AZ Trans Priv Surchg and AZ Trans Priv Sur Tel. They are the same thing! I feel like one may be an older version of the other and instead of replacing the other, they just tacked it on.

I am having this issue too. I purchased my phone in Arizona because I was having problems with it and I contacted customer service and they told me to contact the state of Arizona??? But not what department or anything. My billing and service addresses are all my current residence in Missouri but these charges are STILL there

These surcharges are crazy. I have two surcharges from what appears to be the state or Arizona and two from what appear to Maricopa County. There is another from the city of Scottsdale, where I do not even live!

I was on the phone with Verizon support for more than an hour today, and my call was escalated three times. The rep told me that the Scottsdale charge was because I purchased the phone in that city. I purchased the phone in that city, five years ago, and paid the sales tax. I asked the rep if I moved to communist China twenty years from now would I still see that fee on my bill. I swear this is true... he said yes. Of course this is nonsense.

I was also told that among the other charges that appear to be duplicates, one of them was a "privilege to use" charge levied by the state of Arizona. I asked why I've never seen such a tax on any receipt from any other business I've made purchases from in this state. Of course there was no answer, only that they can't do anything about the surcharge because it's required by the state.

After the useless conversation with Verizon support, I called the Treasury Department and the Attorney General's office in Arizona. Guess what: THERE IS NO SUCH TAX THAT ANYONE CAN CONFIRM.

Who knows a good attorney interested in a class action suit?

If your device was purchased in Arizona, the verizon billing system auto-charges you with the taxes and surcharges of the state where you made the purchase, because you legally purchased the device on there, you just have to call customer service and ask them to update the mdn address as same as your current billing address (mdn address is not the same as billing )and those are going to change to your current state taxes and surcharges. Remember Verizon surcharges are not taxes, but charges Verizon includes on your bill to cover costs beyond the base plan price. These charges are used to cover costs like regulatory fees, contributions to the Federal Universal Service Fund, and operational expenses like network maintenance and property taxes. Hope that helps

I am experiencing The same problem and have been texting with Jack from customer service for an hour. He’s saying we will always have to pay the surcharges since the phone was purchased in AZ. This is not right.

Thanks for reaching out. If devices were purchased on a device payment plan in Arizona, taxes will be billed monthly with device payment installments. Once the device is paid off the taxes and surcharges for Arizona will end.
