Bluetooth voice dialing

Was just surfing around on the Google Android developer web site and found out that Android rev. 2.2 is now released, Verizon is including it in the next release of their smart phone (forgot which one it is) and it is "reported" on the developer site to have true voice dial capability. Don't know when Verizon will upgrade all other Android phones though.

Currently the Devour is the only Android phone on Verizon that supports it. The Froyo (2.2) update will bring it to the other devices if/when they are updated.. An update for the Droid is rumored to be late July and August for the Droid X. Eventhough the Droid X has 2.1, it has he same Nuance voice software as the Devour which allows it to support bluetooth voice dialing before the upgrade. No word on upgrade date for the Incredible or if the Ally will get the upgrade.

Because of HTC and the nature of how they do business you won't know anything about when the Incredible will get an update until it starts rolling out. Rumors at least credible ones almost never come out around HTC products. They must execute people that leak information there. Motorola seems to have an information leak department, someone whose official job it is to stir the internet hornets nest with tidbits of information about their products. Both practices are long standing corporate traditions and are effective in their own ways.

Froyo is bringing true voice dialing (I have yet to see how it has been implemented I hope it really works well and has confirmations if it still requires you to look at the menu to see what options you have and poke the one you need then it is still lacking). I am excited about FROYO but I really need to stop following things like that. Before too long my phone won't be able to get updates and then I will be aggravated. From the current rumors Froyo will be the last update for many phones the Motorola Droid being one of the most popular. The Incredible just squeeks by to get Gingerbread (3.0) but that Squeek doesn't bode well for Horchatta (my vote for the H versionLOL). My guess is most current phones will get FROYO eventually. And after that the only fragmentation will be hardware related. Minimum system requirements will start to be an issue very soon.

I think all this getting worked up over what update will be the cap for what phone is silly, seeing as though I doubt the developers even know at this point. also, anticipating anything beyond 2.2 seems pointless, look how long it took 2.2 to come out, what makes anyone think 3 (if that is the next release) will be out in a time frame where it will be worth it for google to worry about the first devices (nexus one, moto droid, droid eris, ect...) still being used enough to justify the extra work. just roll with it, and at this point just hope everyone gets 2.2.

What makes us think there is a time frame? The fact that Google puts out a new Android OS every 6 months for one. The Change to a new number occurs in the fall. 3 should be this Fall. Essentially the Anniversary edition is the Fall edition subsequent editions are updates to stay ahead of the curve or to bring functions that weren't ready for the major release. Spring is a half step major release. HTC has already said that it could take as long as December for phones with Sense to get Froyo. Which will set them back getting 3.0 ready cause they will still be working on 2.2 at that point.
