Kyocera Dura Flip E4810 phone keep shutting down and trying to restart repeatedly

Why does my Kyocera Dura Flip phone keep shutting down and trying to restart over and over when I am online for a bit. Can these flip phones pick up malware/viruses.? I took the battery out and put it back in and put in on the charger even though it says 70% and then I can boot it up . (So far)

I would also be concerned if my device was shutting off and restarting after being online for a period of time, Bearfeets. This is certainly not normal behavior, and it is unlikely related to a virus or malware. You mentioned removing and reseating the battery on the device, has this issue happened again since then? What, if anything, changed before this behavior started?

Joseph------Nothing changed, no update or anything. Just use it for a few pics, texting and talk. Online about once a week for an hour or so as I use my laptop usually for online. No heavy usage. in general. The first two times it happened I had been online . I took the battery out and reinserted it but didn't come on until I plugged it in to the outlet. Then it booted right up. The next time was when I used the camera and then it started bootlooping. Plugged it in and once again booted right up. I read online that this sometimes happens when the draw is too much for the battery. That the outlet gives it a boost. That even though it says I have a full battery, that the phone cannot read it properly if the battery is malfunctioning and will show a charged battery. Another U tube video said to take the battery out and spin it on a flat surface. If it spins, even though u can't see the slight bulge, it is compromised. I did it on both sides of the battery and it spun freely, but just on one side. Even though it looks flat to me, it obviously is not. I always keep it charged up and have always used the battery saver mode that only charges to 85%. I shut that feature off today and am going to let it run down to about 40% and then charge it up to 100%. Assuming it will read correctly. I always top it off at 65-70% so maybe I have never let run down enough and have screwed up the battery, always keeping it between 65-85%. The phone is only 2 yrs 3 mos and has been babied with no abuse, cold or heat. Possibly I should not have used that battery save feature or let it run down more before charging. Hope it doesn't blow up, charging to 100% if it is wonky. Your take?

My Kyocera has recently been shutting down every time i get a call or a text message. I do not use the phone on the internet. It will only stay on if it is plugged in. The battery meter is showing fully charged.

If your battery is spinning, then it's messed up per the video and that would be my guess as to why your phone isn't working. You would have to get the battery replaced.

When I took the battery out again and spun it ,it did spin on one side, which I know is a sign of a defective battery, so I replaced the battery.

I'm having a similar problem.
I had the Kyocera 4810 for a few years and was always very happy with it. Recently my handset broke and was only able to use it on speaker. Shortly aftewards it started to shut down on me until I was only able to use it while plugged in.

Now I got a new phone and it's doing the same thing. When I'm on speaker it will randomly shut down on me.

Did u replace it with the same model? I purchased a new battery and everything is working fine now. I will say they need to build another update though as I can no longer get messenger on FB on it like I used to and Verizon said it is a Kyocera update glitch. Also had a problem with Backup Assistant quitting working and couldn't get it to turn on. But it is up and running now again and I have no idea why. Verizon troubleshot it and said it was not on their end. I always check for updates and the last one they put out was in 7/23 so u might want to make sure u have all updates through 7/23. Always something with these phones, even the "simple" ones.

There was some kind of compatibility (?) issue with more recent Verizon updates in 2024 where if they got put on, totally bricked Kyocera phones. People had to get completely new phones with the updates disabled to get around it, which is likely the reason why your phone hasn't gotten any more updates since July 2023.

I thought u were probably a regular person. Wonderful about the phone. Ugh. Ten to one when it eventually goes down it probably will not be able to transfer all my contacts over. Maybe I will be able to download them from the cloud though. And I will have to upload the pics to my laptop and then download them to a new phone. Always something! Thanks for the heads up!
