I've gotten notification that my set top box will be obsolete soon. How do I know which new set top box to order, and will I be charged for this service?
When upgrading to the 4100 series STBs, all existing STBs will be replaced.
In an instance where a subscriber has two STBs, Verizon will send a 4100 VMS ...which contains DVR functionality and a 4100 mini which acts like an extender off of the main STB.
When Verizon replaced my old Motorola STBs, I don't remember there being any sort of charge as I changed my cable television package from a legacy to the current "More Fios".
Check with the Verizon Sales department to see if any fees will be assessed.
The 4100 series is the current STB hardware for legacy Fios television service. It consists of a main unit (the VMS) and a remote (the mini).
I'm not able to access my latest bill at the moment, but I believe that I pay $30/month to rent three STBs.
Verizon also provides a different STB for streaming service users. The STB looks similar to the 4100, but connects somewhat differently than the legacy STBs.
I currently have two STBs, one of which is also DVR; it's the other one which is giving me the 'obsolete' warning. It says "CHS 335HDC" in the lower-right corner of the front.I'm not sure which STB I'm supposed to order to replace this one, nor do I know if I will get reimbursed for the change.
When I click the link from the original message I received from Verizon, it doesn't take me to anywhere where I can see exactly what I need to order to replace. Honestly, I consider this to be a poor system ... if I do need to replace my STBs, I should be directed exactly where to go to do so and should be told exactly what I need to order.I'm still very much in the dark about this.
