My phone says I'm connected to 5G, but my plan says I only have Unlimited 4G LTE...

I've been with Verizon since maybe 2016 or 2017, and I think I'm still on a legacy plan: "The New Verizon Plan Single Smartphone Unlimited". I wanna looking through the Verizon app randomly and noticed that my plan states that I am only paying for Unlimited 4G LTE, but my phone (Google Pixel 7 Pro) shows that I'm connected to 5G on the top right.

I assume that even with my phone showing me that I might be connected to 5G, I still am only receiving up to 4G LTE service?

I just bought a new Pixel 8a and upgrade to Unlimited Welcome plan. I live in 22204 and the Verizon map shows this to offer 5G. In 4 weeks I've never seen the 5G icon on my status bar or in settings. Verizon wireless techs could not find a way to show that, even if there's a service problem, my phone is activated to access 5G. They said the area around my home has four 4G towers and one 5G tower. I can't even get 4G, only LTE. HELP!

It's a pretty technical discussion if one wants to delve into the specifics, but for all practical purposes, LTE is 4G. If Verizon has told you there are four 4G towers and just one 5G tower in your area, the chances are the only way you'd get 5G is to get closer to the 5G tower because 5G radio waves do not travel as far as 4G does. Also, Unlimited Welcome customers have a little lower priority on the towers than the customers using Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate.

Hello, candlerman, we know it's important to have access to the best network possible. When activating your new phone, was eSIM or the SIM card that came with the phone used (as opposed to a previously used SIM card)? Also, have you been able to check your network preferences in your Settings? This will be located in Settings>Network and Internet>Internet>Tap the gear icon in the top right (should say Verizon LTE next to it)>Preferred Network Type. Is that set to 5G?
