Gizmowatch

I would like to upgrade my child's gizmo watch to a regular cell phone, but I want to keep the same phone number. When I went to a store, the Verizon rep said it's not possible to keep that same phone number, and you can only cancel the gizmo and get a new line with a new number. Can I keep the number but upgrade her line? We love the number associated with the gizmo watch. If we cancel the gizmo, what happens to that number?

Why would you send a private message - now none of us who need help can get help. I just upgrade my MOMs gizmo and guess what? A new number was assigned, I can’t do anything without calling the toll free number but you know what? Help isn’t available at midnight. So now I have two gizmo watches, the one I purchased in February that doesn’t turn on and the new one, both cost me $30 activation fees, and line service and neither works- and I have tow different phone numbers for an elderly woman who has dementia. The watch phone is great - except Verizon is impossible - per usual. The only help thread is this one and the only help was sent in a private message! So here I am again

If I'm wrong, please feel free to correct me, but the Gizmo watch is designed for limited talk and texting access and some camera capability. So the line with such a watch doesn't have full data capability. A smartphone needs to have data access (internet service) for apps to run. This is why you can't simply transfer a Gizmo watch line to a smartphone.

I Googled to see if it's possible to convert a smartwatch line to a regular mobile line, but the only thing which came up was something on Reddit from 3 years ago and it doesn't seem to apply to Verizon. Not sure if they can do the conversion, which means if you want to keep the number, you might have to do some porting in/out of the number to keep it and hope that porting it back into Verizon makes it work on a phone?

[edit] My bad, didn't notice this was an older thread. It was posted on page 1 or 2 of the thread about some kind of upgrade process being involved, and there was a video link attached. Someone else said when they tried it, didn't quite work because then they got a completely new number on the phone instead?

Hey, rt2canoe, we can make that happen! When you have the phone that you want to activate you'll go through the steps to activate the phone through the app or website; you may need to remove the Gizmo first and then activate the phone using its device ID (IMEI). We are always happy to help get things transferred as well.
