International Plan

Verizon's Monthly $100 International Plan offers 250 minutes of calling. Has anyone found that this does not cover all calls while traveling internationally but only certain ones that I am still not clear on? I have been told by different agents that while abroad it does not cover my calls to make a restaurant reservation, hotel reservations etc as it does not cover calls to landlines. I have asked where does Verizon cover those exclusions under the description of this plan, and no one can tell me. What calls does this 250 minutes cover and where can I find that it writing? This feels very much like a hidden charge. I will say I received a one time courtesy reversal of said charges as no where could any one show me that I should have known this was not covered. Appreciate if anyone has faced the same extra charges and have you found where Verizon discloses these charges?

yes…..BEWARE———> Vz just billed me $299.00 for my normal service + the $100.00 int trvl plan…Should hv been $183.00 +/ -…..They said I dialed a landline ph number and that wasn't included…. Cost extra…….I am switching carriers ASAP!

As the other respondent said, BEWARE! I'm currently disputing what seems to be a moving target with Verizon making up new rules as we go. My daughter has used the international plan in the past and it covered all calls. She is now abroad and we set up the recurring plan starting beginning of January. First bill came through as expected with calls covered. March bill had back charges to beginning of January up to $2.00 per minute totaling over $350. After countless hours on the phone I've gotten different hours. One agent went through calls and put in for a refund for the extra calls. That was then rejected and getting different answers for why, One said she was over minutes (she was not). One said landline (some are some not) and most recently being told it's because only calls covered are from and to the one you are in at the time of the call or to the US, so for example, she is charged roaming rates for calling Czech Republic from Italy. All are within the EU and covered under the plan and I can find NOTHING in any written materials nor have I ever been told that this is their policy. Also odd that this suddenly happened and is now being imposed retroactively. I don't trust Verizon and customer service is impossible. It's a nightmare. and an expensive one.

if your daughter is now living abroad, might be better if she got a phone and mobile service plan from a local carrier so as to avoid these shenanigans with the international service plan, never mind that it could be cheaper. I have a very good friend who lives in Romania and he says wireless service can be had for about 15-20 euros a month (that's about $20-25 US?).

Thanks. She was only abroad for the semester and we wanted her to keep her phone number so the $100 plan seemed to be the best option based on past experience with the plan and lengthy discussions with verizon before she left. It now appears they have gone down hill and/or are changing the plan (without notice, I'll add!) so in hindsight, that probably would have been better! She'll be home later this month so at this point just riding it out...

Yeah, I don't know what all's going on with the international service plan myself, but it sure seems to be as buggy as a roach motel with customers saying they couldn't cancel it no matter how much they tried and random exclusions to the service plan. I have heard that landline calls are exempt from the international plan. Not sure what else is not included.

Me! I got a daily pass while on a cruise and was informed it would be covered. We never even called people we literally texted while we were on land and I had internet on the cruise that I paid separately for. I got charged $100 saying my daughter talked for 55 minutes!!! Which is completely not ok- im not happy!

It could be the monthly plan just like the travel pass, it only covers calls made inside the visiting country and back to the USA. If you want to call a different country, you will need to add a domestic long-distance plan otherwise you will be charged pay per minutes. There is writing on the travel pass about these terms but no such writing on the monthly plan.

Verizon just charged me $119 dollars for “long distance charges” for an hour long call I made to an airline (flight cancelled takes forever). I had the $100 international plan on my phone at the time. I had to argue with them for literally hours about this and also got a “one time” credit eventually for $100. This was after I said that I had contacted Verizon to see why I got an alert about a charge for this call after I hung up. The agent I spoke to said she checked and that it was all good and it all was covered and if I did receive a charge I could get it reversed once I got the bill. When I called and told them this it was like I must have made this up. And first it was “you can’t use what’s app or Skype” on this plan. I’m like what? I was in WiFi! Then it changed to oh you called a landline. Again what? How am I supposed to know I’m calling a landline? Like where’s the tutorial on that?! Never heard of such a thing. I’m disgusted with them. I also set my international plan to turn off on a certain date during a chat with V and then verified it while I was away. I get back and they r still charging me. No lie 5 hours on chat, while I explained and gave them dates and ticket numbers. It was a nightmare. I used the international plan last year and didn’t have any problems. I just must have been lucky not to have to call a hotel or restaurant while traveling?! I mean how practical is that? Makes no sense to me.

I switching also. What puts me over the edge is the hours on chat. They want to wear you down until you give up or agree to whatever solution they offer. This is not right.

Actually the European plans are much cheaper. Not sure of their circumstances or why they might want to keep the current line but I agree that it is cheaper in Europe.
