Two phone lines on one cell phone

Hello,

Right now I have one Verizon landline and one Verizon wireless cellphone line. My intent is to replace my current LG Exalt flip with a newer Dual Sim Dual Standby (DSDS) enabled smartphone. Then I can keep my current cell phone number and port my landline number to the second sim in the DSDS phone. This way I’ll be able to make and receive calls on both my old landline number and my current cell number from one phone. I’ll obviously have to add a second line to my cell plan, and make sure the phone I buy can use two CDMA sims, but is it that simple……or am I missing something?

Converting a landline to a mobile line is possible, but I think it's a different process than a typical port in. With both your numbers belonging to Verizon already, hopefully it isn't too big an issue to get it accomplished, but I'd have a Verizon employee take care of it for you and make sure they know it was a landline you're changing to mobile.

You might be able to qualify for the "Second Line" promo currently running until June 5 where you can add a talk and text only 2nd line to a dual SIM phone for only $10/month. It goes up to $15/month after some period of time (?), but that's still pretty cheap. Since your other number is currently a landline, people aren't texting you on that anyway, and a dual SIM phone has all the voicemail and other apps all going to one bucket so to speak - having 2 lines on it still has all the voicemails just going to one app and they can't be separated.

Be warned that promotions, discounts, etc. aren't "stackable", so you can't get Second Line along with something else like a "get a [device]" offer or whatever since you are also looking into buying a new dual SIM phone. So if you already have some pretty good discounts on your account, consider carefully before signing up for promotions because it can make all your previous discounts go away.
