What seems to be the problem with getting phones unlocked with Verizon

Why is it that they post a policy that says phones are unlocked after 60 days but they arent. Have had my phone for right at 2 years and come to find out it is not unlocked. I want to trade up through company discount program but cant because they have my phones locked, even though they say they are not locked. I am going to pay my phones balance, cancel my account and file a compliant with BBB regarding fraud. Customer for 14 years, this has to end.

Did you buy the phone in question from an outside source? I think the issue is Verizon doesn't have evidence that you are the rightful owner of the phone, so if you can provide a proof of purchase tied into the IMEI, then they should be able to unlock the phone since you have clearly used it on the Verizon network for more than the required 60 days.

Some people will only buy unlocked phones so as not to deal with stuff like this, but it cuts both ways since unlocked phones may not support all the features a carrier offers, and if the phone starts acting up, you're on your own since no carrier will troubleshoot an unlocked phone.
