abandoned junction boxes

We live in a rural area where Verizon has abandoned all land line service. There hasn't been land line service out here for 10+ years. Can we remove the abandoned junction box in our yard right next to our mailbox? It is an eyesore (ALL of them are an eyesore). The specific junction box I'm talking about is 411 23 in Washington state.
