Random letter from Credit & Order Operations

I got a letter saying that they had approved my application for wireless service. I never put in an applications nor do I wish to change my service. I don't know who to talk to about this and calling the customer service line only gets me disconnected due to the fact that I'm not a customer.

As did I. I have never been a Verizon Wireless customer, nor have I wanted or applied to be. Yet I received a letter, via USPS, regarding approval of "my recent application for wireless service," approved via NCTUE (not spelled out, but meaning National Consumer Telecom & Utilities Exchange, which is a legitimate business), and providing their telephone number (866-*****) in Atlanta, Georgia. It is unsigned; there is at least one telltale error in it (either that, or the preparer is less than intelligent), including a bogus "application number," and comes from

I did not and do not authorize Verizon Wireless to contact any third party concerning my credit information, nor did I do or do I authorize Verizon, its agents, assigns, associates, or affiliates to share my personally identifiable information (PII) with third parties, except as specifically required by law.

And I would very much like an explanation of this fraudulent "application" and "approval."

Thank you, Toni. I did try to report this to Verizon and Verizon Wireless directly yesterday, got the runaround, lots of handing offs to someone else, and just plain lipservice. I used to work for Bell Atlantic; the company was never as self-oriented , or as unwilling to engage with its customers to solve problems, as Verizon is, and that's sad.

I am also NOT a Verizon customer, and have never applied for credit, devices or service.

I have also gotten this letter, all is the same except mine has Dunn & Bradstreet listed at the bottom..

Has anyone gotten a straightforward answer yet? I don't want to get a bill for 10 iPhones next...

Is there any way to block future applications?

The last thing we want is for there to be any charges or services that you didn't agree to opened in your name. You can submit a fraud claim using this link here: https://www.verizon.com/about/account-security/file-a-fraud-claim The Fraud Prevention Team will then reach out to you to help resolve the situation. If you prefer, you can reach out to them directly by calling 888-483-7200.

You can also place a credit freeze on each of the three major credit bureaus using the steps found in this link: https://www.usa.gov/credit-freeze This will prevent anyone from running your credit unless you unfreeze it.

Thank you for your help, after a couple hours of phone calls with personal, business & fraud hotlines we finally got to the bottom of it.

Someone applied for credit and autocorrect changed the name to match mine after running the credit report they (Verizon) realized the info didn't match so the cancelled the credit application. Since the credit check was already run, the Verizon system sent out the approval letter automatically.

Good news, no fraud, no attempt even, just a typo and an autocorrect to blame!

Always be safe and double-check, they also made it so nobody can try to apply for anything in the future without a phone call to my cell.

Thank you Verizon, if I ever have a need to switch providers, your support will be the reason I try your service!
