Random games after update

Why do random games get downloaded after a security update? What does two copies of Spades, Solitaire, a match game, and a castle crasher game have to do with security? Genuinely asking, do these apps get paid to force themselves onto your phone? If not, what's the deal?

We want to provide some information on this concern. These apps are added to the phone as they were most likely there from the first time the phone was purchased, as apps that were preinstalled. ~Peter

Wait, but they're different apps almost every time? Sometimes a couple of the same apps get downloaded, but like I said there were two Spades games downloaded this time. If a wide variety of copies of essentially the same few games are preinstalled on all phones but only get reinstalled in pods of 2-5 during security updates, can I ask why? I don't get the point of it. That seems like it will just bloat the phone holding all that extra data. Also, what's the point in the delete button in that case? I drag and delete these games every time they're reinstalled. How can I opt out of this? And again, why are they being installed with security updates? That just feels very random.

The culprit is the Verizon App Manager, installed on Verizon carrier phones. You have to disable the App Manager every time a new software update is installed, otherwise the App Manager will download random whatever apps. I suspect it's because the companies doing those other apps are paying Verizon to advertise for them and this is the method used to promote the other companies. Unfortunately there's no way to uninstall this bloatware as it's part of the carrier software. The only way to avoid such stuff like this is to buy unlocked phones.
