Need access to my old phone number

I have an account that has not been used in 2 years (I was out of the country), and in order to sign back in I need to complete 2 factor authentication by using my old phone number. However, I no longer have access to my number. The number is owned by Verizon, and is not currently in use (I tried to contact the number before this post). The only way to access the account is by this number (I have tried every other way possible). Would it be possible to speak with Verizon and gain temporary access to this number? Or something similar so I could change the number associated with my account? Who would I need to contact in order to do that?

Why do you need access to the old account? After 2 years, the account is closed and the phone number released and available for reassignment.

The account is not a Verizon account, but a Google account. It has old emails that I need access to.

To clarify, the account that I need access to is not a Verizon account, but a Google account. My main question is as follows: Is it possible to temporarily gain access to my old phone number in order to log into my Google account and change the linked phone number from there?

I don't know if Verizon can give you a "custom" number so to speak, but if the number is available, you would either have to change your current phone number to that one, or get a second line added to your account with the associated number.

When I Googled just now, inactive Google accounts may get deleted after 2 years, so even if you were to get your old number back, the Google Account may not be recoverable. Have you used a search engine for "access inactive Google Account"?
