Hi,
I am traveling to Ireland from the US for two weeks in April. Is there an up charge for calls and texting and data usage? I have a Samsung.
Yes, using your phone overseas costs extra money, unless you have Unlimited Ultimate, which essentially has Travel Pass service built in. If you do not have Unlimited Ultimate, depending on how much you want to use your phone and whether or not it's unlocked, the options are:
-Pay a daily Travel Pass fee of $12/day
-Pay for a month of the International Service Plan $100/month (can also be subscribed to, where you would then pay an extra $100 every month for international service; be careful you don't pick this choice if you don't want to subscribe)
-If your phone is unlocked, buy service from a local carrier in Ireland
-Pay the "Pay As You Go" rates for calls, text, and data usage. I do not know what the rates are off the top of my head as it depends on the country, but I've seen in the range of $2 -$3/minute.
If you are prepaid, you only have 2 options:
-Load funds into your account before leaving the US and activate a Travel Pass session for each day you want to use your phone. Make sure the Travel Pass option is toggled on in your account before you leave, or it doesn't work at all.
-If your phone is unlocked, buy service from a local carrier.
Hi Andrea, thank you so much for checking in with us before your trip. travelling internationally does incur charges based on our usage. Here are the options for pay as you go and plans: https://www.verizon.com/plans/international/international-travel/ Alternatively, you can keep your device in airplane mode and use WiFi as needed. Please let us know if you have additional questions.
