Port to pre-paid and own phone

Question

I have my own phone from work and want to port to a new prepaid. I do not want a contract when I try to do it online it’s asking me to purchase a new phone I do not want to do this.nor do I wish to give up my phone. 
how do I do this?

Is this phone currently associated with your workplace as a business line?  If so, I suspect the reason why you keep getting an error message is because the business lines are postpaid and associated with your company's plan.  Whomever handles the business lines at your work needs to contact Verizon's Inside Sales department 800-256-4646 to get the line converted to prepaid, because postpaid lines and prepaid lines are in different parts of Verizon's system, never mind that there may be other stipulations regarding business lines.  You can't simply transfer a line over if you are trying to switch between postpaid and prepaid otherwise.  Hope that helps.
