I have been a Verizon customer for 28 years. I have been willing to pay more for Verizon service over the years (likely several thousand dollars more in that time) because I always found their customer service to be superior to other carriers. Lately, however, the price difference between Verizon and the other carriers has become too large to ignore. So I called last November to see if Verizon had any discounts or promos that might bring the cost down. I was told that our son (1 of our 3 lines) would qualify for a $25 per month student discount. Though it was frustrating to only now learn about a discount that we could have had all along, we followed up and had him apply, and he was promptly "verified". When the discount had not appeared on our statement a month later (December), I called and was told that the discount was "in the system", but that it sometimes takes 1-2 months to appear on the bill. Since it still had not appeared, I called today and was told that he doesn't qualify for the discount because we have "over 2 lines" on the account. So, in spite of claiming to offer a student discount, the reality is that 2 parents and a student on the same account disqualifies you from the discount. When I asked the rep to explain the logic behind that policy, she could not answer. I am left to conclude that Verizon simply doesn't want too many people to take advantage of this potential discount, so they mislead their customers and use the "fine print" to exclude most students. If there is another explanation, please advise.
Without that discount, I can no longer justify paying the premium that Verizon charges compared to other carriers. After all these years, I guess it's time to switch
