In August 2024, a Salesman came to my door selling "free" 30-day home internet. I signed up, it did not work well and I didn't want it. I returned the equipment and cancelled my account within 30 days. Then I received my first bill in the mail of $35 for the free month. I didn't pay and I called Verizon 4 times to get it taken care of. I was told that my equipment had been lost in the mail so they started an investigation. Two months after I sent it back, I was still receiving bills so I called again. I was told it had been found and it would take 1 to 2 months to be processed back into the system. Two months later, my credit score went from 800 to 630 for a late payment from Verizon, sent to collections for a service I never had! I had the Wi-Fi plugged in for maybe 2 weeks and then canceled everything within 30 days and sent the stuff back. I disputed it with three Credit Agencies and the collection agency and Verizon came back to collections now saying I never returned the equipment when I was told 5 months ago in November by a Verizon representative that they had received it but it would just take a while to be processed back into the system. Verizon will not talk to me because they have sent my account to collections and collections says we have to go through Verizon directly. I don't have the tracking number anymore because I threw it away after a month, thinking that it was resolved. Verizon has that because they sent me the label but they're not sharing that information to try to track it or with the collection agency. I even went back to the UPS Store I dropped it off at and they said you can contact whoever sent you the label because they have that tracking info. I'm so irritated how it has been handled, even after doing everything right in my power and come to find out other people have had the same issue with equipment being returned. Now it is effecting my credit and my only option the collection agency is giving is to pay a reduced price or re-dispute with Verizon. (Instead of $250.54, Ive been told I can pay $175 and another person said $87). I don't want to pay for a service I never had when I canceled my account within 30 days, sent back the equipment within the 30 days, called and did online chats, and disputed it and still have not gotten anywhere after 7 months of dealing with this. I think the next thing I'll do is report Verizon and see if that does anything. Please help me get it resolved if you have any advice at all.
