Replacing an G1100 with CR1000A but the WAN port doesn't work on the CR1000A.

Hello,

I've upgraded to the CR1000A from the G1100 router but the new router will not connect to the ONT. The CR1000A LAN ports work fine but the CR1000A doesn't connect to the ONT via the Ethernet WAN port. The CR1000A's WAN Ethernet port LEDs don't light up when I plug in the Ethernet cable from the ONT which makes me suspect that there is some kind of hardware configuration issue at the ONT.

I'd appreciate any help you may have with this issue.

Is your ONT using Ethernet or Coax for the Internet hand-off? The G1100 router supports MoCA WAN, while the CR1000A does not. If you have an Internet speed plan of 100Mbps or less, there's a reasonably good chance that your ONT has MoCA enabled and not Ethernet for the Internet handoff.

If your ONT needs to be switched to Ethernet, you'll need to contact Verizon tech support. You can either ask Tech Support to enable the port for you, or you can upgrade to the 300Mbps plan and request a "Self install" of Ethernet. Either path will get the Ethernet port active, and it's possible for the upgrade path to save you some money.

If you already have Ethernet from the ONT to the G1100, and the CR1000A's WAN port won't light up, do a quick test. Connect the CR1000A's WAN port to the G1100's LAN port to see if you get a link. If not, then you might have a bad router. If it does, then it might be possible you have a cabling issue, or some other fault going on. A bad ONT isn't out of the possibility. Alternatively, you might need to see if hard-setting the speed of the Ethernet WAN port in the CR1000's Web Interface to 1Gbps Full Duplex brings it online.
