I only want the 5G Home Internet, I do not want to connect my phone via eSIM.

I just signed up for the 5G Home Internet and my router arrives tomorrow. Whenever I open the app on my phone, it wants me to "activate" my cell phone via eSim.

I am on a family member's phone plan and do not want to convert my phone to my Verizon 5G home internet account. I'm luck to not have to pay for it now and my service is fine. There's no reason for me to switch.

Am I going to be asked to connect my phone every time I open the app?
Will I not be able to receive text alerts unless I add my phone to the plan?

I am not used to how 5G works, so my questions might be dumb.

Hello tuesdaysbirdseed , that is a good question. So by you using your phone it thinks you are linking it to your family's plan account. What you want to do for a 5G Home Internet account is register using an e-mail not tied to your family plan account. Because the 5G Home Internet account is going to be on its own account number, separate from the family one your phone is on. I have included the directions in the link below.

The family plan is through a different service provider entirely, so the email shouldn't be connected to anything with Verizon.

I am curious if the alert will go away when I set up the Gateway Arc (it arrives tomorrow) since that will be assigned to the line "available" on my account.

I have great news not only will it go away but the home internet ARC is linked up with its own phone number (identification number). We use phone numbers to identify devices that are active on the network (watches, Tablets, Home internets) even if they are not phones themselves. Once you have your device you can register on my Verizon using that phone number and email of choice and seeing how the email is not linked to Verizon in any way it will be easy.

Hi Balter, I'm still being asked to "activate this device" (meaning my cell phone) on my account when I open my app, and my ARC is set up and functioning with its 5G line.

It seems like I'm just going to have to tell Verizon that I don't want to set this phone up on my account every time my fiance or I open the app, which is pretty annoying but I guess harmless.

Thank you for sharing! So you do need an email so that you can create your online account for the 5G home internet. This will not interfere with the account you have with the other provider. The online account for your 5G home internet will empower you to manage your account online or on the app including making payments, changing plans, running speed tests, and setting up the settings for your home internet to name a few. Please let us know if you need help setting up the online account.

I have an account--I used it to log in here. I made the account to order the home internet and have set up the home internet with that account. I can get into the app with that email address (which has never been used for any other provider, I used a different email entirely).

It sounds like I will just have to decline to add a line for my phone every time I open the Verizon app from my cell phone.
