I've been with Verizon for 4 and a half years now. I admit I've never really taken a close look at the bill until now. I have automatic pay. I recently paid off one of the phones on my account (I have two lines). My cell phone line shows $0.22 for NM Gross Receipt Surcharge and on my son's line it charged $39.47. All the surcharges for his line are higher than mine but that was the biggest gap. I'm on a very tight budget and did good to get his phone paid off to try to bring this cost down some and even try to possibly go to another carrier. So, I called and asked about it and the customer service rep was stumped too and tried to research it and read off the same stuff to me I'd found in my search. It didn't really answer my question. Someone above said they'd take care of it as if they'd take that charge off the bill. But, it doesn't answer my question. How does this work and why is his so much higher than mine??? Is it due to usage of some sort? Which shouldn't be the case since I pay so much for a plan that is supposed to be unlimited pretty much everything! I realize the state, county and city take their part but still. This is concerning.
