Living abroad

Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do when living abroad? I will be living in Hungary for a full school year from September to June. I have talked with customer service and have been told several times over there's nothing to be done. They can only suspend it for 90 days or if you are in military service. I'm not military service. I will be teaching at a university in Budapest. I will need to get a Hungarian Phone number for myself and my daughter. I would like to suspend my US phone number until we return to the States in June of 2026 but Verizon does not seem to have an option for that.

Hi, you are correct about the 90 days max suspension per year on a postpaid line, unless you are active military and provide proof of overseas deployment, in which case you can suspend your line for longer. Since you are wanting to keep your US phone number, the options are:

-If you are currently under contract: Do the vacation suspension for 90 days, and then continue paying your Verizon bill afterwards to keep the contract going.

-If you are not under contract, convert your line to prepaid service so it's cheaper. There is a line suspension option for prepaid lines too, but I'm not sure on the parameters.

We want to set you up for success with your travels abroad. Currently, options for voluntary suspension for mobile devices include lost/stolen, Military Short Term and Military suspend. In order to retain your number on a postpaid service, it would need to remain active and billed for your monthly service.
