I want to share my experience, upgrading my Verizon iPhone to an iPhone 16 pro max to Verizon’s unlimited ultimate plan. I learned they flat out lie about their international service bundled w the plan - it isn’t unlimited, it’s limited to 15GB of data - then tosses you off the network. Zero data. You’re stuck in a foreign country w no Uber, maps, internet, etc.
One of the primary motivators for me upgrading my plan was free service when traveling, but when I went to the developing nation of France I found that my bundled ‘free’ mobile service failed more than it worked. My wife has an old plan w travel passes and had 5G the entire time. The ‘free’ service Verizon offers on the top unlimited plan is actually capped at 15GB of data in the fine print. Restarting my iPhone 16pro max would yield a few minutes of service but within 5 min I was off of 5G and back to 3G, the native service in the developing country of France. I spent over an hour and half on the phone w Verizon while on vacation to fix it to no avail.
Verizon can only authenticate with the app, and with no data service it’s not possible to verify my account w customer service. I went to a Starbucks for WiFi to accept Verizon’s push request and started walking. 20min later the call drops, I call back and they call me, but no call waiting wo data so the call drops. You can’t add a travel pass on the internet to an Unlimited Ultimate Plan.
Finally I go back to the hotel downgrade to the unlimited plus plan that doesn’t bundle international service and add one of the 11 travel passes I had banked. Bam, it works now! I’m on 5G and can work as I need to.
Unbelievable that Verizon lies about their bundled international plan on their top plan. Don’t be a sucker, pay $10 less a month for unlimited plus and buy broadband when traveling. Verizon flat out lies about their service calling it unlimited when it’s limited to 15GB. And when you’re maxed out you’re stranded in a foreign country w no internet, on the most expensive plan vzw has.
