Why does voice mail not give the date and time of messages?

I am a new Verizon customer. In general I am very satisfied, but I am perplexed by how voice mail works. When I listened to voice mails with my previous wireless provider, the voice mail system always told me the date and time of each message. With Verizon voice mail, it just plays the message with no indication of date or time? Is there a way I can get the voice mail system to provide this information by default?

You need to turn the feature on. There are two versions of VZW VM so this may not be correct.

Go into VM. From the main menu choose option 4,option 2, then option 4.

Some one asked a couple weeks ago how to leave a VM without calling someone and have the chance of them answering and then rambling on for 20 minutes, It is option 2 from the main menu. They need VZW service though.

VM is short for voicemail. So to follow Budone's instructions, you would call your voicemail box and then choose the options he gave at the prompts.
