Old Verizon utility box in front of my house that I need removed

I have an old verizon utility box that is in front of my house that is an eye sore to the community. How can this be removed. I do not believe it is being used by anyone. We do not have verizon. Please let me know what we can do. I would like to have a u shaped drive way installed in front of my house but it is blocking my progress.
