there's a verizon box on my electric meter but verizon says they don't offer any services to my house so what is this box for and can I get internet form verizon?

Yes, that is a phone company NID (Network Interface Device). That doesn't mean your area is still being served by copper plant, or by Verizon, so can't answer your question about the Internet service, only a Verizon rep can answer that. What kind of service do your neighbors have? That answer could let you know who supplies Internet to your area. As far as the DM goes were you logged in when you checked?
