Whether data roaming accessing should be turned on overseas

Not sure whether this is the right forum. I have an S23 Ultra. Under Settings, Connections, Mobile networks, you have the option to turn on Data Roaming Access. I know Data Roaming Access must be on to use Travel Pass. I am going to use Travel Pass on the first day until I get SIM card from the country I'm visiting. Right before the SIM is installed, I will turn off Travel Pass in the app.

My question is twofold. First, when I get a SIM card from the country that I'm visiting, should I leave Data Roaming Access on? Second, if I leave Data Roaming Access on, will I be charged if I use Google Voice to make 1(800) calls.

To answer your questions:

1) If you want to be able to use your Verizon number at all while abroad for any reason, data roaming needs to stay on. With many apps running in the background, even if you don't make any calls or texts with your US phone number, it could still trigger a Travel Pass charge due to apps using data in the background (and being tied to your US phone number).

2) Calls to 1-800 numbers are free only within the US and maybe Canada. If you are elsewhere, the calls either don't go through or you will be billed for them as an international call.
