Last january I opened an account with verizon, in march I got a call from a debt collection agent. When I called verizon they verified I didn’t owe anything and recommended blocking the number. In may I got a letter in the mail from another collection agency for verizon. I called them. They looked up the account number on the bill because it was different from my own and discovered when trying to set up my new phone two accounts were created for me. They said it was because i tried to activate in store but ended up finishing online. they told me they would delete the account because there was no usage or details. I explained to the collection agency and they said they had reversed it. 2 days later i called back verizon and they told me that the account had been merged with mine and i was payed up. in june my credit got dinged for a delinquent payment from verizon and i got another notice in the mail from a new collection agency. Went through the entire process again it took 8 hours, and multiple days. Was assured not one but i checked 3 different times to make sure my account was good and the one that keeps getting collected on is merged or deactivated. Today i got another notice in the mail from a third company. I don’t know what to do. This has been a complete and total nightmare. The stores tell me to call and multiple phone agents have just transferred me straight to collections agencies that i have already spoken with.
