Swap numbers, promo credit

I have had a death in the family. That new(ish) phone is on an Unlimited Plus plan with trade-in device promo credits, only one year in. I have another line with an old phone that has been long paid off on an Unlimited Welcome plan.

I would the number from the old phone to be assigned to the new(ish) phone, keeping the Unlimited Plus plan that was on the new(ish) phone. The new(ish) phone's number would then be dropped (or ported if possible).

Would I lose the promo credits? What's the best way to handle this?

, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. When a phone is under contract, no changes can be made to the arrangement or it will break the contract and all credits will end, plus you would be required to immediately pay off the remaining balance on a device which isn't paid off. Switching the phone number associated with the phone is considered breaking the contract.

If you are the executor of the estate, the line can be transferred to you, but I think the contract as is has to stay in place. There used to be something about Verizon being willing to take back the phone and presumably cancel the contract without penalty to the rest of the family, but I can't find that information for now, so is a question for someone at Verizon to answer. Sending you kind thoughts.
