Cant send or receive texts

I recently added service to my phone after being without service for over a year. I added the unlimited plus plan. I can call and receive calls just fine. But I can't send or receive text messages. I've tried multiple messaging apps. Any ideas?

I have an android Galaxy A21. Version 12.

I’m on an iPhone and have had the same problem for months. I have searched online and this has been a frequent problem for customers going back to 2021. Each time someone asks, they get a generic response from Verizon that they sent a private message to help troubleshoot. But no fix has been posted that I can find.

I have spent hours with online support. I went into a store and got nowhere. Was told by one online agent that there was a known issue in my neighborhood and gave me a link to check for updates. The link said “no known issues in your neighborhood.”

Basically, it doesn’t seem like Verizon cares about this widespread problem. I’m looking into other carriers

Someone in tier 2 tech support needs to do something on Verizon's side to get your texts running. If you're still on Android 12, that's pretty outdated now and can be contributing to your problems, because most people use RCS or other forms of encrypted texting now.
