Hi, I have a GTE box that I’d like to remove. Can I take it out myself, or do I need to request service from Verizon?
No, you can't remove yourself.
There are easement agreements in place and causing damages to ISP property will incur civil liability. Where are you located? This question is needed to determine whether the box is still in Verizon's possession.
I don't know if you can remove it yourself. Would recommend contacting Verizon via social media if you have any social media, because the CSRs are currently unable to use these forums due to background work in progress. If you don't have social media, use the "contact us" link at the top of the forum page.
As an aside, I've seen several threads recently asking the same thing. If anyone knows definitively who is responsible for removing defunct network equipment and/or moving Verizon equipment for renovation/construction purposes, would be great if you provided some feedback. 😀
Located in Oregon. Neither Verizon customer service nor Frontier customer service knows who owns the box.
Have you tried contacting your local utilities office? If Verizon and Frontier say the box isn't theirs, it's going to take some digging around to figure out who is responsible for that easement.
