My flip is having issues. I'm wanting to know if the 7 is a lot better than the 3? My screen still works but the cracks that developed across the middle are annoying. The worst part is that when I answer and put my phone up to my ear, it hangs up, every single time.

My suggestion is to Google for product reviews. As for your Flip 3 hanging up when it's open, I'm wondering if the screen cracks are causing a miniature form of an "earthquake" because the cracks are rubbing against each other like a fault line slipping every time you open the phone and it's hitting the hang-up button as a side effect. Getting a folding screen replaced is considerably more expensive than a standard screen replacement, but I like to use the 50% rule for things like this.
