Text messages have to send twice

I have been having trouble for months sending & receiving text messages. Box pops up send as sms . Why don't it just send any which way .. Tired of seeing my messages at a later time not sent. Some are time sensitive . Only had one or two bars and is always on SOS. yet verizion says there is nothing wrong with my phone or service.

Any one else have this issue?

If your phone is constantly in SOS and the "check network status" link doesn't show any outages in your area, then my guesses are you're either in a network dead zone or there's a hardware issue with your phone. Does the phone work on WiFi? The "send as SMS" occurs when your texting app cannot use data. "Modern" texting is encrypted and goes over the internet as data usage. The older SMS format dates back to the 2G days and is unencrypted.
