Is there a way to setup a 2.4G network on my verizon home internet router? Some of my home devices won't play with 5G…like ring doorbell camera.
Hi, I'd change your username, because your current one is a privacy and spam risk.
Do you have 5G Home Internet, which uses the cell phone towers for service, or Fios, which is fiber optic internet? I did a little digging around on the website and this came up:
I have spent the last month trying to get all of my smart devices working. They were fine for a long time, but our power went out and half the devices went offline. Of course, after trying multiple things, I performed a factory reset of everything and then I couldn't get anything back online!?#!
After a ton of googling, I found a reddit post that said Verizon sent an update to the router which blocked the signal from the smart devices. Thankfully, there was a solution and I was able to get all my cameras and speakers working again.
Go into the router settings: 192.168.1.1
Advanced tab. Port forwarding.
Original port 53. Forward to address user defined. Forward to port 53. Schedule always. IP address 9.9.9.9. Click add to list.
Then change the smart device to put out 9.9.9.9 also. I used Google Home. Go to the DNS and change the primary server to 9.9.9.9
Hope it helps.
On my router (which isn't a Verizon specific one) I setup two network names. One broadcasting in the 5 GHz Wi-Fi signal and the other in 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal. To be able to tell which one is which I added 5 GHz to the end of the one broadcasting on the 5 GHz channel. For the devices that only like or can see the 2.4 GHz channels, that is the only network I connected to on those devices. The other devices have both saved and will switch between the two depending on the signal strength or other factors. When both fail to connect properly, it usually means my modem from the internet providers is not working properly.
