Best options for lowering monthly plan

I have two teenagers on my plan. I am desperate to find a way to lower my monthly plan. I have been with Verizon for well over 15 years and hate to leave but I need some relief. What are the best options, combinations, etc., to lower the overall monthly rate for a plan that doesn't need hotspot or any other bells and whistles? I feel like others I know have a cheaper bill with more phones than I do on Verizon.

Hi, I'm guessing you are currently postpaid and have at least 3 lines in a group account. If you are currently under contract for one or more lines, then nothing can be changed for those lines in question without breaking the contract, which will cost you a big chunk of change. If the lines in question are not under contract, these are my suggestions:

-Check the perks on those lines and cancel any which aren't being used. If the lines are in a MyPlan setup, ask Verizon to go to just a service-plan-only setup so you're not required to carry any perks.

-Unlimited Welcome is the lowest level postpaid plan currently available, so if you're on Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate and don't need all the "extras", could downgrade the service plan.

-If you have a legacy plan not currently available to incoming customers, your autopay discount is reduced and you get less and less of an autopay discount over time. In this situation, compare what you have with the currently available plans and see if switching to a newer plan would make more sense, as older plans are also configured for the time when they were released, so may be kneecapping you if you're now paying about the same for limited data, metered minutes, etc. when everything these days is unlimited.

-There's prepaid service available directly through Verizon, which is cheaper than postpaid. However, the downside is you will be deprioritized on the network more, and any lines switched from postpaid to prepaid will have to be re-registered on My Verizon, as the accounts are kept in a different part of the company and even have different login URLs for My Verizon.

Thanks for the tips! I only have two phones on the plan - both of my teenagers (mine is on a company plan). I also have one I-pad and one apple watch. Only one of the numbers is under contract. Are the retail stores able to help at all with the situation or is it limited to calling Verizon direclty?

You're welcome. Are the iPad and Apple Watch on the family plan with the 2 phones, and the number which is under contract is tied to the iPad and watch? (Because I'm pretty sure I've seen a promotion before offering these devices for adding a new line.) This is actually 4 lines total in the account, because tablets and smartwatches require a "line" too.

The line which is under contract will have to be left alone for the duration of the contract, unless you want to immediately pay off all the devices in the contract plus an early termination fee.

As for whether or not the corporate stores can handle plan changes where you change from one postpaid plan to another postpaid plan, I'm not sure. You can look up the nearest corporate store in your area by using the "Stores" link at the top of the forum and it will display phone numbers for the stores so you could call and ask. If someone there is able to make the plan changes for you, I'd recommend scheduling an appointment at the store.

If you want to switch the 2nd phone line to prepaid service, the last I'd heard was the stores can't do this anymore. You'd need to call Inside Sales at 800-256-4646 to get that line converted and then have to re-register the line on My Verizon separately, as it will be under the prepaid side of the company which is separate from postpaid.

If there are any perks to cancel, only the account owner is able to cancel perks.
