Old in ground telephone pole

Question

There is an old land line post in the middle of my driveway. I believe it belonged to Frontier and since Verizon has purchased Frontier I wonder how I would go about finding out if the box is deactivated and if it can be safely removed. The box has an orange sticker that says GTE.

Thanks for the update.  I wish I had a contact number for a specific department handling these types of concerns, but haven't heard of one.  Verizon Repair would handle fixing downed lines or fixing a busted box which is still in use, but I'd have to think they wouldn't be dealing with removal/relocation of equipment.  The only thing I can think of would be to try contacting Verizon via one of their social media channels:

it didn’t use to be one drive way it use to be two but when we bought the property next door we made it one driveway. Verizon is who owns the landline boxes where I am which is why I’m on here. I tried calling customer service but they have no idea what I’m talking about 😩. The dig people said we can remove it once we verify service is inactive and have permission from the owning utility company (Verizon).

The middle of your driveway?  Usually, these boxes are on the sides of driveways.  If the cover of the box or utility pole or something else on it has fallen off or knocked down and is sitting on the pavement obstructing access to your home, contact Verizon Repair at (800) 837-4966.  As for removal of old POTS boxes, those are in utility easements and you can't remove them yourself as only the entity who has rights to the easement can do anything with them.
